Programme

This webinar introduced the NaturaConnect case-study methodology for establishing an ecological network of green and blue infrastructure in the Danube-Carpathian Region (DCR). The approach aimed to support the implementation of EU biodiversity and restoration targets by offering insights into how ecological connectivity could be strengthened through coordinated planning across national borders and policy frameworks. Participants were encouraged to share their views on the methodology to inform final adjustments and next steps.

Key topics included:

  • Presentation of an integrated approach combining analyses of human stressors, biodiversity values, and conservation status at multiple spatial scales
  • Focus on river and riparian connectivity, addressing both aquatic habitats and their transitional zones to the hinterland
  • Introduction of a comprehensive map of the Danube-Carpathian Region, highlighting key areas for conservation, restoration, and potential ecological corridors
  • Discussion of initial results from the analysis and implications for planning and management
  • Opportunity for stakeholders, spatial planners, and conservation practitioners to provide feedback and contribute to further development of the methodology
