NaturaConnect at the Biodiversa+ Science-Policy Forum and BiodivProtect Funded Projects Kick-Off Meeting
April 18-19, 2023
This week, members of the NaturaConnect team will be attending and presenting NaturaConnect at two important events in Prague being convened by Biodiversa+, a European biodiversity partnership jointly developed by BiodivERsA and the European Commission as part of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030. The events will be held in hybrid format, with online attendance possible.
The Biodiversa+ Science-Policy Forum takes place on 18 April and will serve as a platform for discussion among scientists and decision-makers on the knowledge and capacity needed to facilitate the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework in Europe. Martin Jung, Research Scholar at IIASA and member of the NaturaConnect Consortium, will present the NaturaConnect project and how it will support EU countries in building a coherent Trans-European Nature Network of conserved areas for nature and people. Andrew Plumptre from BirdLife International, another NaturaConnect Consortium partner, will present Key Biodiversity Areas and how they can contribute to the Global Biodiversity Framework Goals and Targets, with linkages to NaturaConnect also being explored.
The BiodivProtect Funded Projects Kick-Off Meeting takes place the following day on 19 April, and will focus on the 36 new projects funded by BiodivProtect that support the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems across land and sea. Piero Visconti, Research Group Leader and Senior Research Scholar at IIASA, and Project Coordinator of NaturaConnect, will deliver a keynote presentation on knowledge needs in Europe to implement the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and how the 36 projects funded by BiodivProtect could address these needs.
