In this webinar preliminary results on protected area expansion priorities using NaturaConnect data were presented.The event centred on enhancing Europe’s protected area network through strategic and science-based expansion.

Specifically, the webinar focused on:

• Innovative Spatial Modelling: Presentations introduced advanced spatial planning approaches used to identify priority areas for protection across Europe. These methods aim to support the effective implementation of the EU’s goal to protect 30% of land and enhance the protection of existing conservation areas.
• Interactive feedback tool demonstration: Participants engaged with a new interactive mapping tool developed by IIASA. The tool allowed users to explore and assess model-generated priority areas, providing valuable feedback on the validity, strengths, and potential gaps in the approach.
• Breakout Group Session: The webinar featured breakout sessions designed to collect targeted feedback and address questions about the prioritisation approach.
