No dia 22 de maio, em celebração do Dia Internacional da Diversidade Biológica, a Universidade de Évora organiza um seminário subordinado ao tema “Contributo de Portugal para uma rede transeuropeia de áreas de conservação para a natureza e para as pessoas”, no âmbito do projeto europeu NaturaConnect.
O Seminário constituirá uma oportunidade para partilhar os resultados do projeto em Portugal e debater, numa perspetiva multissectorial, os desafios e as oportunidades associados à implementação da Estratégia Europeia da Biodiversidade em Portugal. A Ministra do Ambiente e Energia, Maria da Graça Carvalho, fará o discurso de encerramento.
O programa tem início às 14h00, com a presença do Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Évora, Carlos Zorrinho, na sessão de abertura. A primeira parte do programa é dedicada aos resultados do projeto NaturaConnect em Portugal, com destaque para a conectividade ecológica, a expansão de áreas protegidas e a meta dos 10% de proteção estrita, e o financiamento para a biodiversidade. As comunicações serão feitas por Miguel Bastos Araújo, da Universidade de Évora; Henrique Miguel Pereira, do German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv)/Biopolis/INBIO; Daniel Veríssimo, da Rewilding Europe; e Bárbara Pais, da equipa do projeto NaturaConnect em Portugal.
Segue-se uma mesa-redonda sobre o cumprimento dos ambiciosos objetivos europeus de conservação e de restauro da natureza em Portugal, com representantes dos sectores público e privado e da sociedade civil.

O seminário é gentilmente acolhido pelo Município de Évora e terá lugar no Palácio de D. Manuel, entre as 14h e as 18h30. A participação é gratuita mas carece de inscrição, devido à lotação máxima do Salão Nobre.
Final seminar of the NaturaConnect project in Portugal
On 22 May, in celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the University of Évora is organising a seminar on the theme “Portugal’s contribution to a trans-European network of conservation areas for nature and people”, within the framework of the European NaturaConnect project.
The seminar will provide an opportunity to share the project’s results in Portugal and to discuss, from a multi-sectoral perspective, the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing the EU Biodiversity Strategy in the country. The Minister for the Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, will deliver the closing address.
The programme begins at 2.00 pm, with the Mayor of Évora, Carlos Zorrinho, attending the opening session. The first part of the programme is dedicated to the results of the NaturaConnect project in Portugal, with a focus on ecological connectivity, the expansion of protected areas and the 10% strict protection target, as well as biodiversity funding. Presentations will be given by Miguel Bastos Araújo, from the University of Évora; Henrique Miguel Pereira, from the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv)/Biopolis/INBIO ; Daniel Veríssimo, from Rewilding Europe; and Bárbara Pais, from the NaturaConnect project team in Portugal.
This will be followed by a round-table discussion on achieving Europe’s ambitious nature conservation and restoration targets in Portugal, with representatives from the public and private sectors and civil society.

Participation and registration
The seminar is kindly hosted by the Municipality of Évora and will take place at the Palácio de D. Manuel, from 2.00 pm to 6.30 pm. Participation is free of charge but requires prior registration due to the limited capacity of the Salão Nobre.
